Sticks and Stones

A replica of the outside of the Botanical Gardens

Last week I took advantage of my day off for MLK Day and headed up to the Bronx for the last day of the Holiday Train Show at the Botanical Gardens. The weather was freezing and spending the day surrounded by tropical temperatures and gorgeous plant life could not have been a better call. However, escaping the cold was merely an added bonus to experiencing the beauty of the nature-based reproductions of historic New York Buildings and landmarks.

The Proof is in the Puddin’

The scene of the East Village dessert shop

Ahhh, let the blog coverage of NYC’s endless culinary establishments begin! First up, a brand new dessert spot in the East Village, located on  St. Marks and 1st Ave,  just 2 blocks from my apartment. After the  New York Times told me there was a restaurant devoted almost entirely to pudding I had to check it out immediately. Thank God I did, because the demand for the heavenly dessert was so high, they had to close their doors for a few days just to restock and whip up some more product.

West Coast for the Holidays

So, after my little introductory spiel about how my blog will be mainly focused on finding and appreciating the beauty in the Big Apple, I am going to be a little defiant and make my first post about The City of Angels. I was fortunate enough to be able to escape for a few days to spend my holiday in LA with my family and experience some great things along the way.

The Beginning

I am a writer. Not by trade, although, as a publicist, strong writing skills is at the core of my career skills. Public Relations is what I do. A writer is what I am.

Starting a blog has been in the back of my mind for a while now. Determining a topic was a big part of what held me back for so long, but I think I have finally narrowed it down. A little over a year and a half ago I moved to New York City after finishing a Master’s of Arts in Communication at the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee. I was fortunate enough to land my dream internship, which led to my current job as a fashion publicist. However, the stress and struggle of trying to make it in the big city has often made it difficult to truly take the time to appreciate the fact that I live in one of the greatest cities in the world.

Fashionably Fed is a way to remedy that. My goal is to stop and find beauty in the many things that make this city great, from the food to the fashion (my two favorite things) and everything in between. To incorporate my writing and inner nerd-dom, I want to also take the time to understand the story behind what I am experiencing. It is my mission to nourish my mind, body and soul, and to share that with my audience along the way.
